Amalfi Coast (Positano, Praiano & Ravello), Italy
The Amalfi Coast is made up of a few different cities that dot the southern coast of Italy. Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Maiori, Minori, Atrani and Amalfi.
Positano was a real highlight of the trip, and the gem of the Amalfi Coast. It become our home base from which we made day trips to the other cities. We stayed at the most lovely Airbnb in Montepertuso, high up in the mountains. Our host, Federico, was unbelievably kind and actually built the apartment with his bare hands. The patio overlooked the sea and was ever so exquisite.
From our driving heavy lives in Atlanta to walking crazy numbers of stairs up the vertical city of Positano, it was a welcome (I’ll admit it, hard) change. It was good to get our workouts in and actually close our workout rings every day ;)
The first day, we hiked up to Il Buco (the mouth). It’s a natural hole in the mountain that is like a wind tunnel and reveals awesome views of the city.
We also hiked the infamous Path of the Gods all the way from Montepertuso to Praiano in our normal sneakers since we didn’t bring any hiking boots. The # of stairs were unreal!! Thankfully, there was a cute Lemon Point stop we stumbled upon where we stopped for a quick lemon juice with orange juice.
We had a seaside lunch at Kasai, which was actually one of my least favorite meals of the trip. Praiano was definitely more pricey and Steven’s truffle pasta was probably 3 bites total for almost $30. Maybe we just didn’t choose the right place, but we didn’t eat out in Praiano again.
We rented a scooter from M.L. Porter. They have a huge inventory of scooters (including Vespas!) that are in almost new condition. We have never driven a scooter before, but we decided to give it a go. Because it was the off season, there wasn’t much traffic and it’s truly such an easy and efficient way to travel along the coast.
The very best no-regrets move we made during our Amalfi Coast tour was a boat tour down the shoreline. It was originally a shared tour, but because we were the only couple who booked, it turned out to be a private cruise! It was SO MUCH FUN and definitely a peak life moment.
We went with a family run company who provided commentary as we sailed and provided an adorable picnic snacks, fresh citrus, and a bottle of champagne!

A farm turned restaurant dinner at La Tagliata. For $60/pp, you get a full home-cooked 10 course meal with unlimited wine, shots of limoncello, and hearty italian service.
After the outstanding meal, you were free to roam the farm of animals and gardens.

Lastly, our day trip to Ravello. We got lost trying to find the Villa Cimbrone Gardens. When we finally got there, it was gorgeous! Only 7 euros/pp in the off-season. The highlight was the Infinity Terrace.
The Amalfi Coast was absolutely incredible. It’s a place I’ve dreamed about visiting and it definitely scratched the itch. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants a more relaxing and scenic trip. The views wow at every turn.
If we could do it over again, we would bring more hiking clothes and do more homemade meals rather than going out to be honest. There was a lovely local grocery store right by our Airbnb and you could get 2 delicious servings steak ravioli for like 2-4 euros. The most economical option probably would have been renting a car (since the off season provided low to no traffic) but the scooter rental was seriously so cool. All of the ferry and train rides we took were also fun, but definitely added up as well. It’s pricier on the Amalfi Coast than it is in other parts of Italy (Naples & Rome for sure).
However, the views are unforgettable and the boat tour was an absolute must and definitely a highlight of our lives <3
