Jared & Hannah's Chicago Mural Tour Proposal
Aug 22, 2020
In mid-July, Jared reached out with one of our favorite messages: plans to propose to his girlfriend, Hannah! Jared discovered our photography from our good mutual friend, Adam Sobol, who recently proposed to his girlfriend in beautiful South Haven. His thoughtfulness and commitment to detail impressed us. From sharing photos of the final proposal location to outlining exact meeting times, he never missed a beat making sure we were fully in the loop up until the big day.
We met at the famous Galerie F in Logan Square. Jared booked out a private art walk with Offbeat Street Art Tour to explore the colorful murals of Logan Square. The tour transforms the city into a living art gallery, illuminating the vibrant art scene of Wicker Park, Bucktown, and Logan Square.
Little did Hannah know that our tour of myself & Steven, Jared & Hannah, and our sneaky tour guide, Milo, would change her life forever. We pretended to be strangers upon arrival, but had our cameras at the ready as “tourists,” and a big bouquet of pink roses hiding in our backpack for Jared to present Hannah after he proposed.
Our first stops featured murals of people whose lives were taken too early in an effort to keep their memories alive.
So many hidden art pieces in the alleyways of the streets that we had never seen before despite walking through these neighborhoods on many occasions.
We loved how Milo shared personal stories from the artists. Some have perfected different characters like the silly hamburger (below) or paint with signature pastel colors that catch your eye.
The iconic Robin Williams mural, collaborated on by two artists. Note that the genies don’t have eyes, but have big mouths, representing the happy humorous personality Robin is known for. However, the picture of Robin represents who he was on the inside. It features his deep eyes and cuts off right above the mouth, showing how on the inside he struggled with an unseen mental illness. Super deep, and brought the well-known mural to life for us!
Many murals are sponsored by corporations, like the octopus below holding Pabst Blue Ribbon beer bottles.
Steven sneakily had the bouquet of roses hiding in this big backpack.
Artists even paint on these residential garages. Such a cool value-add for these homeowners!
Our final stop…the love sign. Bet you can’t guess what happened next!!!
In case you couldn’t tell from all of the happy tears, Jared did an extraordinary job planning this amazing day. We will never forget it, and are SO EXCITED for you, Jared & Hannah, as you embark on your lives together as future husband & wife!!!
